The first step you need to do is to decide what you would like to sell and know how to make the product. Now, this is where free livelihood training seminars come in. Recently, I attended a livelihood training seminar that is offered for free in our barangay. Thanks to our barangay captain and council for making this project possible to help people in the community to have another possible source of income.
The livelihood training seminar was held for 3 days and featured:
- Fish processing - Bangus Sisig, Stuffed Bangus, Gourmet Tuyo
- Meat processing - Tocino, Longganisa and Embotido
- Candy making - Yema and pastillas
The resource person, Ma'am Melba, is from Pasig City Institute of Science and Technology (PCIST), formerly called Pasig City Manpower and Training Center. PCIST is offering free training for different livelihood programs. It is accredited by TESDA and gives National Certificates to graduates.
To those who are interested in learning more about a particular skill and would like to leverage it for their career and employment, this is a very good opportunity made available by the government for free. Also, I heard graduates are given business starter kits when they graduate so they can start a business from their own homes.
PCIST is currently offering the courses listed in the banner above. But there are other programs offered (see list below), just ask their office for the schedule.

Though I am a graduate of BS Food Technology, I am glad to have attended the free training seminar because I learned a lot. Aside from learning how to make the products, Ma'am Melba also shared tips on raw material sourcing, product costing and selling.
Attending the seminar reminded me of the dreams I had when I was still a college student. I also remembered how my mom was selling food items here and there. I actually was her helper in the production of her products. Maybe, it's time for me to pursue those dreams, if not as a side business, as a hobby, especially that Christmas is just around the corner.
